Class Description
This seven-session hands-on course introduces students to iMacs and iPads for creative and academic use. Students will develop confidence navigating macOS and iOS, using essential apps, and applying their learning to digital media projects. By the end of the course, students will be comfortable using Apple devices for homework, creative projects, and digital storytelling.
Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about
- Key differences between iMacs and iPads and understand how to save their work without using Apple IDs or iCloud;
- Important: MAPS devices do not use Apple IDs or iCloud storage due to IT and MDM management restrictions!
- Basic navigation skills on Apple devices by successfully logging in, creating a folder, and using essential apps while following proper device care protocols;
- How to open Finder, identify key interface elements, and locate files and folders using navigation and search tools;
- Accessing the Applications folder through Finder or Launchpad, how to locate and launch specific applications and how to locate a saved file;
- Students will demonstrate understanding of standardized naming conventions and rename existing files or folders accordingly;
- They will demonstrate how to move files between folders using drag-and-drop or contextual menus, and confidently rename files using Finder tools.
Session Structure
- Class Length: 90 minutes per session
- Requirement: Students must complete 4 out of 6 sessions to receive their MAPS Tech Pass
- Expectations for Completion: Students must demonstrate an understanding of core functions (such as navigation, file management, and app usage) and be comfortable asking MAPS staff for guidance and responding accordingly to instructions!
