Students will learn to build and fly a variety of drones while learning the laws and regulations surrounding them. They will explore flight simulators, learn from advanced drone pilots, and fly drones with different styles of controllers ranging from traditional ones to using just their hand gestures to control the drones. Camera systems will be explored for cinematic special effects shots (edited in After Effects) and also racing applications. Extremely powerful LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology will be utilized in novel ways on drones to colorfully light up the night sky and may even convince the citizens of Hamilton that UFOs are among us.
In this 11 week class, students will
- Try out dozens of types of drones and controllers exploring the differences in performance and operations
- Build their own flying camera and delivery platforms for use with wireless goggles
- Study drone laws and explore how to get licensed to make money flying and filming
- Sample camera drones- match box and human sized (race style quads and stabilized camera types)
- Explore Drone Racing League Simulator for online gaming through practice in competing in races
- Explore cinematography using drones and After Effects
