Class Description
Dive into the world of podcast production to create a fictional radio hour! In this fictional world, students will create and record news stories, advertisements, and interviews all scored with original music and sound effects. Students will explore audio production software, microphones, audio recording/editing, storytelling, and more!
Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about
- Build fictional worlds through storytelling and sound design;
- Record and edit audio in Ableton Live 11;
- Create sound design using Ableton Live 11;
- Create podcast scores using Ableton Live 11;
- Learn the functionality and creative aspects of microphones;
- The art of the peer critique and give peer critiques on the progress of student work;
- Opportunities and potential resources on career pathways;
- How to distribute, exhibit, and promote artwork for a variety of audiences.

Deliverables: Students and Class Projects
- Individual Projects
- Just Do It Projects – Students will create one to two, 2-5 minutes long, “short story” podcasts involving dialogue and sound design. These projects will be conceptualized and completed in two class periods.
- Group Project
- Students will work in small groups to collectively create a “radio hour” type podcast production, including short stories, interviews, advertisements, and how-to sections. The production section will include original music and sound effects created during class.
