In this class, students will explore the world of sample-based music. Exploring and experimenting with the creative work of other artists has increased in popularity over the last eighty years. Sampling has brushed in many musical styles ranging from rock, country, and classical to reggae, hip hop, and pop music. Students will use samples and the sounds around them to create their musical pieces.

In this 10 week class, students will

  • Learn the history of sampling 
  • Learn to operate a record player and sample vinyl records
  • Create music using “found sounds” and unique instruments  
  • Dive deeper into music theory
  • Learn to work in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)
  • Create two to three musical pieces
