Dive into the world of sound and explore the tools of the trade through hands-on practice with audio recording, microphones, voiceovers and music production. Learn how to build real careers in sound while working on your own creative projects—whether it’s songwriting, podcasting, or sound for video. You’ll use GarageBand software to record and edit your audio like a pro. Choose your own adventure and bring your sound ideas to life!
Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about
- Developing effective recording skills by learning microphone setup, voiceover techniques, and audio capture best practices for high-quality sound;
- Applying mixing techniques such as EQ, compression, reverb, and balance to create clear, polished, and well-blended audio tracks;
- Using MIDI tools and virtual instruments to compose and produce original music, exploring digital sound creation and arrangement;
- Mastering automation techniques in GarageBand to dynamically control volume, panning, and effects, enhancing the expressiveness and professionalism of audio projects;
- Exploring a variety of audio production careers, gaining insight into roles like music production, podcasting, sound design, and audio engineering to inform creative project choices;
- The art of the peer critique and give peer critiques on the progress of student work;
