Class Description
In this 7-day crash course, students will learn about the fundamentals of character design. This is an important component to a comic, TV show, or movie – methods of conceptualizing and generating these visual designs will be presented in the form of reference sheets and interactive projects. These projects will be basic in nature, accommodating all artistic and written skill levels.
Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about
- The function of each of the core components of the reference sheet template (name, turnaround, assets, and other info)
- The history of artists and characters in various media, and how they apply today and in this class
- Applying shape language to characters and environments in order to develop a specific mood
- Simple color & posture (gesture) combinations to build on mood
- A basis for organizing ideas and building concepts, for characters and beyond
- Time management for art projects
