Class Description
Adventures in Audio will explore the processes recording sound: how to set up a recording space, actually recording, systems for figuring out mistakes as they happen. We will be learning the process of audio editing: cleaning up audio, mixing, taking out unnecessary gaps, combining recordings, when to apply common filters and what they do. Students will also be making their own foley (sound) effects and recording them.
Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about
- Terminology and concepts in relation to audio technology and recording
- How to use an array of audio recording equipment
- Using audio editing software such as adding effects, fading, volume control, and manipulation of waveforms using digital software, and editing conversations
- How to export audio files to be used in digital formats in various delivery systems such as podcasts, downloadable files, social media, and streaming video;
- Learning what foley work is, the principles behind it, and how to do it
- How to mix audio files together to create a soundscape
- The art of the peer critique and give/receive peer critiques on the progress of student work;
- About opportunities and potential resources on career pathways;
- How to distribute, exhibit, and promote artwork for a variety of audiences

Deliverables: Students and Class Projects
- We will make a sound file between two to six minutes that will will have a conversation with at least two examples of foley, and either scored or containing diegetic music
