Class Description
In this class, students will explore the world of music production, learning to write, record, produce, and mix music in a professional recording studio environment. Using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), students will learn to use modern software to realize their creative goals. In this session, MAPSters will dive into the creation of instruments developing a MIDI instrument using conductive materials, and building instruments using 3D printing. These creative ways of making sound will be the foundation of their individual and group songs!
Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about
- Become familiar with the function of a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
- Learn to use recording studio equipment such as microphones, outboard recording gear, and musical instruments
- Build an instrument to use for performance and recording
- Learn/practice fundamental musical concepts such as music theory basics and ear training
- Work as a creative team to write, record, and produce an original song

Deliverables: Students and Class Projects
- Individual Projects: 2-5 min musical composition using created instruments
- Group Projects: 1-2 fully arranged and produced musical compositions
- Flash Projects or “Just-Do-Its”: 2-3 projects started and completed in one/two class periods
