Class Description

Take your animal characters on an adventure through the Bitterroot Valley’s stunning landscapes! Building on your character creation skills, you’ll now focus on developing rich, visually engaging ecosystems. Master digital landscape illustration techniques for alpine, subalpine, montane, and valley ecosystems. Learn storyboarding methods and basic animation principles to bring diverse Bitterroot habitats to life. By the end of this session, you’ll have created a series of digital illustrations depicting our local ecosystems and a fully illustrated storyboard for a short tale about an animal’s journey through different elevation zones.

Learning Objectives: in this class, students will learn about

  • Building on the character creation skills from Session 1, students will now focus on developing their ecosystem:
  • Intermediate principles of digital drawing tools to create landscape illustrations;
  • Master Adobe Fresco tools and techniques;
  • Methods for incorporating basic animation principles;
  • Understand and implement strong storytelling tools and storyboarding techniques; 
  • The art of the peer critique and give peer critiques on the progress of student work;
  • Opportunities and potential resources on career pathways;
  • How to distribute, exhibit, and promote artwork for a variety of audiences.
